CHARACTER NAME: Iris Virga
CANON: Vampire: The Requiem AU
→ AU notes:
  • addition of psychic vampires ("predators" a.k.a. Shepherds) to the "food chain," at the tier above vampires: classic
  • chron focused on the events after a worldwide disaster which had been orchestrated by predators to prevent a vampire plan to reveal themselves to humanity en masse

THE SHORT VERSION:
  • priest in a gnostic order of vampires (the Sept) who believe fighting the Demiurge means hunting down vampires who exploit humanity; specializes in religious ritual magic.
  • born Nah-thle-tla; childhood spent in a vampire-run Native American boarding school (exactly as awful as it sounds); rescued by the Sept vampire who ultimately became her "sire."
  • (yeah there's some stuff to unpack about how she nevertheless continued practicing Catholicism, gnostic heresy notwithstanding.)
  • chose to become a vampire to support the Sept's cause
  • her experiences in the aftermath of the apocalypse shattered her faith; met the sun rather than accept the temptation to become a predator and thereby snuff out her emotions

  • does not (did not) see herself as a "person," but a monster whose sole use is in service to humanity; genuinely compassionate but also pathologically self-martyring
  • tends towards sex as an outlet, and often uses it to mask feeding; judges herself harshly for both
  • overall: a deeply depressed person who knows she should want to heal, but struggles to feel healing is merited when the world is Like This.

Iris Virga
PRONOUNS: she/her
AGE: 108
HEIGHT: 5'8" (173 cm)
HAIR/EYES: black-brown / dark honey
PLAYER: Degen
PRONOUNS: she/her
SQUICKS: breaking/pulling teeth; dementia and other mental damage effects (just ask if you're not sure!); harm to domestic cats
NOTABLE CHARACTER TRAITS: mixed-race Chiricahua Apache and white; unhealthy pallor to her skin; has an old burn scar on her right calf.
Iris is also a Vampire: The Requiem-style vampire (hence the pallor), meaning that she tends to give mortals and/or humans a faint impression of being something dangerous/predatory (generally mild enough to be overcome by acting socially normal, but it's still a thing characters can pick up on). Her fangs are likewise subtle unless she's feeding, or on the edge of losing control due to hunger, anger, or fear.

OTHER NOTES: If you're interested in vampire content(tm): Iris is willing to feed from humans and prefers doing so in intimate contexts; she's just got a massive guilt complex about it. Other vampire stuff (healing others with blood, vampire blood addiction, enthrallment), however, takes a lot more in the way of extenuating circumstances. Still, we can chat! I love fucked up and evil situations.

Everything said continue

or die, your choice. And that was the grief
that dazzled: knowing there are things
that should destroy us that don’t destroy us.

"The Uses of Sorrow"

(In my sleep I dreamed this poem)

Someone I loved once gave me
a box full of darkness.

It took me years to understand
that this, too, was a gift.
